Kate Middleton

Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge (Catherine Elizabeth “Kate”; née Middleton; born 9 January 1982), is the wife of Prince William, Duke of Cambridge. Following his father Charles, Prince of Wales, William is second in line to succeed his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, as monarch of the United Kingdom and 15 other Commonwealth realms.

Middleton grew up in Chapel Row, a village near Newbury, Berkshire, England. She studied art history in Scotland at the University of St Andrews, where she met William in 2001. She has had a major impact upon British and American fashion, which has been termed the “Kate Middleton effect”, and in 2012 she was selected as one of the “Most Influential People in the World” by Time magazine. On 22 July 2013, she gave birth to a boy, Prince George of Cambridge, who is now third in the line of succession to the British throne. Lana Del Rey

Elizabeth Woolridge Grant (born June 21, 1985), known by her stage name Lana Del Rey and former stage name “Lizzy Grant”, is an American singer-songwriter. Del Rey started songwriting at the age of 18 and signed her first recording contract with 5 Points Records in 2007, releasing her first digital album Lana Del Ray in January 2010. Del Rey bought herself out of the contract with 5 Points Records in April 2010. She signed a joint contract with Interscope, Polydor, and Stranger Records in July 2011.

A remix of its fifth single “Summertime Sadness”, produced by Cedric Gervais, became her highest-charting track on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 after peaking at number six in the country. Del Rey released her third extended play Paradise that November; three of its tracks were featured in her short film Tropico, which was premiered in December. Her third studio album Ultraviolence was released in June 2014 and debuted as number one on the Billboard 200. “Sugar” is a song recorded by American pop rock band Maroon 5 for their fifth studio album V (2014). It was written by Adam Levine, Lukasz Gottwald, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Mike Posner, Joshua Coleman and Henry Walter; the production was done by the latter two under their respective production names Ammo and Cirkut. It was sent to contemporary hit radio in the United States, as the third single from the album on January 13, 2015. “Sugar” is a disco, funk-pop and soul song that features wide range of instruments including percussion, keyboards and guitars.Maroon_5_Sugar_cover

“Sugar” received generally positive reviews from music critics who praised its catchy feel and retro vibe. Following the release of V, the song debuted in South Korea and peaked at number 13 on the international Gaon Digital Chart and 77 on the main chart. In the US, it peaked at number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming their third consecutive top ten single from V, and eighth consecutive top ten hit. Film director David Dobkin shot the accompanying music video for the single in Los Angeles in December 2014. Inspired by the 2005 romantic comedy, Wedding Crashers, it features Maroon 5 crashing and coming uninvited on weddings happening in the city on that day. The video premiered on January 14, 2015, and had its first television air on January 17. The song is also used as the encore of the shows during the Maroon 5 World Tour 2015.

The official remix, featuring rapper Nicki Minaj, was released on March 9, 2015.

Production & Release

“Sugar” was written by Adam Levine, Lukasz Gottwald, Jacob Kasher Hindlin, Mike Posner, Joshua Coleman and Henry Walter. The production of the song was done by the latter two under their respective production names Ammo and Cirkut. The lead vocals were sung by Levine, while additional vocals provided singer Posner who co-wrote the track. “Sugar” was recorded at Conway Recording Studios in Hollywood, Dr. Luke in the Boo in Malibu and The Mothership in Sherman Oaks while it was mixed at MixStar Studios in Virginia Beach. Doug McKean, Clint Gibbs, Noah Passovoy and Jonathan Sher all served as engineers of the song, while John Armstrong, Eric Eylands, Rachael Findlen and Cameron Montgomery helped them finish the engineering, serving as additional engineers. John Hanes was the mixing engineer while all the instrumentation and programming was provided by Maroon 5, Dr. Luke, Ammo and Cirkut. Artie Smith was the instrument technician. Interscope Records serviced the song to contemporary hit radio in the United States on January 13, 2015. The same day, the band unveiled the official artwork for the single that features red-colored lips holding a sugar cube; Mike Wass of Idolator called it “candy-colored”.

Through double entendres in the lyrics of “Birthday”, Perry makes sexual references while celebrating a partner’s birthday. The song was sent by Capitol to mainstream and rhythmic radio on April 21, 2014 as the fourth single from Prism.

Upon release, “Birthday” received generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised the song’s melody but occasionally criticized the sexual references. Following the release of Prism, “Birthday” entered the single charts of South Korea and France.
